Description
Heartland Meat Company is a locally owned and operated business that has been serving San Diego for 50 years. We are looking for an assistant manager for our production crew that is experienced in leading employees and managing a production environment, specifically with meat-cutting machinery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for achieving production targets while maintaining a safe working environment and managing direct employees within multiple departments to ensure quality, safety and production standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and schedule production activities
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with HACCP and USDA regulations
  • Manage work priorities and allocate resources to meet assigned timelines and goals
  • Analyze and manage inventory levels to avoid out-of-stock issues
  • Administer quality control testing
  • Correct product handling issues
  • Evaluate current production quantities and implement improved schedule to maximize efficiency
  • Maintain cooler rotation and organization
  • Train, direct and lead the production team in the day-to-day operations
  • Direct the routine maintenance and set up of machines, equipment and facilities
  • Perform daily walks and visual inspections of the production facility in observation of unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective action
  • Train employees to ensure safe operating procedures are followed
  • Adheres to product specification requirements throughout the manufacturing process to maintain the desired product quality
  • Maintains expert-level knowledge of products and equipment to ensure the ability to direct employees to perform the job properly
  • Tracks and maintains reporting of key product result measures to identify improvement opportunities

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership and guidance to employees in production
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; as well as addressing complaints and assisting in appropriate resolutions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree in Agricultural Science or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in a meat production facility
  • HACCP Certification and strong knowledge of GMPs, quality regulatory requirements and systems
  • 2+ years supervising employees

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to speak English in a clear, understandable manner
  • Bilingual in Spanish is helpful
  • Ability to accurately follow detailed procedures and processes
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must have the ability to carry out instructions furnished in both oral and written form
  • Ability to plan and organize time and projects efficiently
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with co-workers at all times
  • Ability to act in an ethical, honest and professional manner at all times

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
