Description
The Research and Development (R&D) Manager conducts research at Deseret Cattle Feeders (DCF) and coordinates whole-system studies with ranch managers. In addition, they are a key member of the Deseret Ranches Research Committee. Additionally, the R&D Manager will assist the DCF General Manager in various feedlot operations. Deseret Cattle Feeders (DCF) operates a 45,000 head capacity feedlot. DCF is dedicated to producing and marketing the highest quality beef cattle, while providing meaningful work and growth opportunities for its employees. AgReserves, Inc. is a multi-national, multi-corporate company that operates investment farms and ranches throughout the world. 1. Strategy • Develop world-class research program to improve product quality, system efficiency and profitability. • Assist the Deseret Ranches Research Committee in developing and executing quality beef cattle research. • Assist the Deseret Ranches Genetics Committee in data collection for genetic improvement. • Assist the DCF General Manager as a member of the feedlot management team. 2. Production • At the direction of the Deseret Ranches Research Committee, plan, execute and document beef cattle research at DCF and coordinate with ranch managers in whole-system studies. • Effectively manage GrowSafe system at DCF. • Manage and coordinate data collection for Deseret Ranches seedstock operations. • Develop and manage commercial research opportunities. • Develop expertise and gain experience in feedyard operations and management. 3. Profitability • Develop cost-effective research program that will benefit the Deseret Ranches production chain. • Supplement in-house research with commercial research opportunities. • Assist the General Manager in efficient and profitable feedyard operations. 4. Stewardship • 60% of time devoted to Research and Development for the Cattle Division. • 40% of time assisting feedyard operations 5. People • Report directly to the DCF General Manager with accountability to the Deseret Ranches Research Committee. • Work cooperatively with DCF staff and ranch personnel. 6. Safety • Strengthen, support, and manage a safe work environment and culture ensuring the company safety manual is followed and enhanced. 7. Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Education • Master’s degree in animal science • 5 years’ experience in cattle research or production preferred • Demonstrated ability to conduct, document, analyze and write-up publishable research. • Experience using and/or conducting research related to the GrowSafetm system is a plus. • Must effectively manage workload and delegate to insure proper completion of tasks. • Self-motivated; high level of integrity and work ethic; works well with others, Detail oriented • Ability to write, communicate, and organize work with others to create a team atmosphere. • Must be an effective motivator of others. • Good computer and writing skills. • Horsemanship and cattle handling skills. • Valid Driver’s License Physical Demands and Work Environment • Physical capacity to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Outside working conditions including inclement weather, heat, and the sun. Long hours depending on the situation and time of year.
