Description
As a leader in applying cutting-edge technology to animal breeding, STgenetics (Sexing Technologies) is seeking a Genomics-Bioinformatics Research Scientist as part of a growing multi-disciplinary team working on Dairy, Beef and Porcine. In this role, you design, manage, and analyze research projects oriented toward the application of genomics and bioinformatics tools to drive genetic improvement and value differentiation of STgenetics. This position is in College Station, TX. Key responsibilities include: * Incorporate bioinformatics tools to drive genomic accuracies * Building tools to manage and mine large genomic databases * Statistical analyses of genomic data * Develop new innovative research projects in the area of responsibility * Improve methodology for genetic evaluation * Remain current in area of responsibility and establishing a network of industry and academic contacts Application: For application, please email a complete CV and names, email address and phone number of two references to: Dr. Joseph Deeb (jdeeb@stgen.com). Qualifications
* MSc/Ph.D. in animal/plant breeding and/or quantitative genetics * Good knowledge in statistical genetics * Good knowledge in bioinformatic tools * Proficiency in the use of, at least, one statistical software package * Excellent scripting skills (e.g. Shell, R, Python, Perl) * Experience in at least one programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java) * Good knowledge of SQL / NoSQL databases * Good understanding of the application of complex statistical models * Good understanding of utilizing genomics (e.g. SNP, CNV, Haplotypes, Sequence, etc) to make genetic improvement * Experience with analysis of large genomic data sets * Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment * Excellent interpersonal, communication and reporting skills * Strong attention to detail * Strong technical writing and presentation skills
